Question 1

What is the best mobile data option for tourists in Mexico in 2026?

Accepted Answer

For most tourists with a compatible unlocked smartphone, a travel eSIM provides the simplest and most flexible way to stay connected throughout Mexico. Otherwise, a prepaid SIM card is preferred when a local phone number and voice calls are necessary.

Question 2

Can I keep my home phone number while using a Mexico eSIM?

Accepted Answer

Yes, dual-SIM phones generally allow keeping the primary SIM active for calls and SMS while using the eSIM exclusively for mobile data.

Question 3

Are calls and text messages included with NoveSIM travel eSIMs?

Accepted Answer

No. NoveSIM travel eSIMs are data-only. Supported internet calling and messaging apps operate over the data connection, but standard calls and SMS use your primary phone line.

Question 4

How do I activate a prepaid SIM or eSIM in Mexico?

Accepted Answer

Prepaid SIMs bought in Mexico are often activated immediately or with minimal setup help from store staff. eSIMs require scanning a QR code on your device and enabling mobile data and data roaming settings to complete activation.

Question 5

Is it better to buy a SIM card before traveling or upon arrival?

Accepted Answer

Purchasing before travel offers immediate connectivity once landed and allows plan comparison without language barriers. However, buying at the airport or retail stores in Mexico provides local assistance and potentially better tailored plans for tourists.
